Imo State Police Command has said that a former Imo State gubernatorial candidate, Uche Nwosu, was arrested and not kidnapped.

Earlier reports had claimed that Nwosu, a son-in-law to former Governor Rochas Okorocha had been kidnapped.

This came after he was whisked away Sunday morning at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Eziama-Obaire, Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State by heavily-armed security operatives.

The operatives were said to have stormed the church with high-powered security vehicles, shot sporadically into the air and then arrested Nwosu.

It was learnt that Nwosu was at the church for the outing service of his late mother who was laid to rest on Wednesday December 22, 2021.

After the arrest, rumours claimed he was abducted by kidnappers.

However, the state police command later released a statement clarifying that Nwosu was arrested and not abducted.

Part of the statement issued by the state police spokesman, Michael Abattam said, “This is to inform the general public that chief Uche Nwosu was not kidnapped but was arrested by the police and Imo state police command is aware of the arrest and presently he is in police custody.”

The police are yet to clarify the reason for his arrest.
