Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday shot and killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Sunday Frank-Okputu, in Yenagoa.
The suspected assassins were said to have shot the deceased severally and ensured he was truly dead before they made their way out of his house.
Late Frank-Oputu, who hails from Gbomotoru community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state, was a strong supporter of the Senator Heineken Lokpobiri faction of the Bayelsa APC.
He led the faction of the party to court to challenge the congresses held in the state last November.
The former Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) in the state has been a vocal critic of some internal issues bedevilling the party.
No official statement has been made by the party in the state and the spokesman of the State Police Command, Asinim Butswat could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
