Former governorship candidate of the Alliance For Democracy in 2007 in Ogun State, Otunba Deji Oshinowo, has emerged the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the state.

Oshinowo emerged the winner of the governorship primary with 56 votes on Monday after defeating his closest rival, Tony Ojeshina, who polled 41 at the election held at Sweet Sensation, Abeokuta.

At the primary held in presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security personnel as well as party’s representative from Abuja, Oshinowo asked the incumbent Governor, Dapo Abiodun to resign his office.

Declaring Oshinowo as the winner, the party’s Chairman Electoral Committee, Isah Adamu Aji, said that out of 100 delegates accredited to vote, 97 voted, three voided votes recorded and Oshinowo scored 56, thus making him the winner of the election.

But reacting to his victory in the primary, the former AD candidate called for the resignation of Abiodun, noting that he was not fit to rule the state, even for another four years in office.

Oshinowo, while describing Abiodun as an “epileptic governor” since his inception in office, said that with his emergence as SDP gubernatorial candidate, he remained the candidate to beat come 2023 elections.

He, therefore, called on the party leadership and members to team up across the 20 Local government areas and the 236 wards and work for the success of the party in the 2023 elections.

He said, “I want to give glory to God Almighty and thank the good delegates. I also want to thank my party men, it is momentum occasion and we are sending a strong signal to the opposition.

“We are in this to win, mediocrity had to give way in Ogun State. We are sending a strong signal to the sitting governor as a matter of fact he should resign if he has any iota of respect for that office.

“This is victory not just for SDP, it is a victory for the people of Ogun State, i have said it before that help is on the way and whatever we need to do to get this election going we should do.

“I want to thanks our party men, i want to thank the voters, even those who did not vote for me, we are one big family we will now start to synergize and work for the progress and the growth of our party.”
