Owo church attack: Why I faulted FG’s claim – Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu says he faulted the Federal Government’s stand on Owo attack because of lack of empirical evidence to back the claim.

FG had linked terrorists’ group, the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to the attack.

On Tuesday, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor, said security operatives had arrested the suspected killers of the church’s worshippers.

But Akeredolu, who spokeon Channels TV’s Politics Today, said FG jumped into conclusion on the incident.

The governor said, “When I took that position I was so concerned because I felt the Federal Government came out too soon. And I said what evidence do they have? How did you come to the conclusion? The incident from its start was linked to ISWAP.

“And that is why immediately I came out and said look I don’t believe this; it is too early. You need to have concrete evidences because I believe that the normal practices of ISWAP, they own up to their act and almost immediately they take credit of the action. Nobody came out in the case of June 5 in Owo attack to say they were responsible. That was not the good thing to do. And that was why I challenged it.”
