Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday lamented the rise in cult-related killings in the state, saying mechanics, vulcanizers and bricklayers have now joined the killer gangs.

Abiodun stated this at the 90th birthday celebration of Alhaji Teslim Dawodu, in Sagamu.

He expressed worry that until the recent past, cultists were usually found in the tertiary institutions, but now the menace had crept into the larger society and even threatening to overwhelm it.

The governor, however, hinted that his administration had enacted a law which empowers it to demolish any house providing safe haven for cult members.

Abiodun also assured that the state government would deploy all necessary resources to combat cult-related issues with a view to eradicating them.

He said, “I have signed a law and that law now empowers me to demolish any house where a cultist is caught.

“Sagamu has had its own peculiar problems and we are on top of it. We are deploying all the resources to ensure that we stay on top of the security situation in Sagamu.

“It is very unfortunate that the capital of Remoland is the place where we begin to have issues with cultists. And you know, traditionally, cultists were usually found in tertiary institutions, but, these days, you will find out that cultists are now your mechanics, vulcanizerd, bricklayers and when you even ask them why they are involved, they don’t even understand.”

The governor advised property owners in the state to ensure they have the data of their tenants.
