Alhaji Ismail Omipidan, Chief Press Secretary to Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, has denied allegations that his principal is behind Monday’s gunmen attack on the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in the state, Lasun Yusuff.

Omipidan said Yusuff did not pose any threat to his principal’s second term ambition in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The CPS stated this in his reaction to the allegation by the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives following an alleged attack on his personal residence early on Monday morning.

The Labour Party flagbearer had accused Governor Oyetola’s camp of being responsible for the attack.

Omipidan said since there were security operatives attached to the LP governorship candidate, they should have successfully repelled such an attack.

The CPS, who challenged Yusuff’s conclusion on the alleged attack as hasty, queried when the investigation was concluded between 2am, when the incident occurred, and now to ascertain that it was the governor that sent the gunmen.

Omipidan stated, “If we are to carry out an attack, it would have been in the PDP who are attacking our people but for the fact that they have been attacking our people, we have never made any attempt to go on a reprisal.

“Why would anyone want to come after Lasun? Lasun is no threat to Mr governor, we are not after any citizen of Osun State, let alone Lasun Yusuff.

“It is not only that my principal does not know anything about the attack but I am doubtful of the claim being made by Honourable Lasun Yusuff.

“Lasun should stop painting a picture as if there is tension in the state. We all know there is no tension in Osun.”

The CPS said questions should be asked and to which reasonable answers should be provided.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in his response to questions on the attack tweeted, “I have asked Osun command to investigate this as urgent as possible. The DPO of the area has visited the scene, while we expect the command to react to this too.”

Confirming the attack on his residence on a radio programme in Osogbo on Monday, the LP governorship candidate accused the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola of organising the alleged attack on his house.

He alleged that Governor Oyetola wanted to eliminate him from the gubernatorial race.
