Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has called on security agents to “act fast” to check the rise in the abduction of schoolchildren by bandits across the country.
On March 9, bandits kidnapped some Tsangaya students at Gidan Bakuso in Gada LGA of Sokoto.
At least 15 students were reportedly abducted in the attack on the Tsangaya, which is a school that combines Islamic and Western education.
A day before, 287 students were reported missing after bandits attacked Government Secondary School Kuriga, Chikun LGA of Kaduna.
Reacting to the trend of school abductions in a statement by Musa Krishi, his media aide, Abbas condemned the recent attacks on educational institutions by bandits.
The Speaker said the kidnappings would hinder the government’s “efforts to address the high rate of out-of-school children” in the country
“We must collectively rise to the occasion and stem the tide of abductions, especially of women and children, at a time when the government is making efforts to address the high rate of out-of-school children,” Abbas said.
“The schools must be safe for our children. Our security agencies need to act fast.”
